When the French recently challenged the United States at the U.N. Security Council over the possibility of war with Iraq, they failed to realize they would also be taking on Northern Michigan.

The potential for real damage to French historical interests lies here in the neglected north, and is a much greater threat to the overweening French than the comparatively puerile idea being circulated in fashionable circles of turning French fries into American fries.
